AAP govt to fast-track schemes for senior citizens

“Senior citizens have a right to live with dignity.  Their vast experience must be utilised properly,” said Goel, while speaking during a function organised by Senior Citizen Council of Delhi at Hauz Khas here.

Goel further said that the elders must be given due respect in society.

“The Delhi government is committed to provide all possible help to the senior citizens by sincerely implementing various schemes related to the welfare of senior citizens,” he said, appealing to the people of the city-state to treat their elders with compassion and dignity.

Goel also exhorted the elders to develop a sense of confidence so that they could face the realities of their daily life without fear.

“With their vast experience they can make the next generation capable and competent,” Goel said. With the size of families becoming smaller, the lives of the elders are becoming different and they are now forced to face new challenges, he said.

The president of Senior Citizens Council of Delhi, JR Gupta informed that they have created a network of more than 500 active senior citizens who are living alone and who are participating in the everyday social, cultural and religious activities, yoga, talks, lectures, interaction sessions and panel discussions on various social issues.

Such activities are taking place at Deer Park Senior Citizens Activities Centre, near Hauz Khas village between 7 am to 8.30 am for the past 33 years.

The event was attended by a large number of representatives from various organisations of the aged persons.
