AAP files petition in EC against BJP MLA

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday filed a petition before the Election Commission, demanding immediate disqualification of Gokulpur MLA Ranjit Singh from the Delhi Assembly.

In its petition, AAP alleged that Ranjit Singh, MLA from Gokalpur assembly constituency, had produced fake caste certificate procured from Uttar Pradesh. Gokulpur is a reserved constituency for scheduled caste.

‘Under the Representation of People Act, a clear case of disqualification is made out against BJP MLA’, said AAP in a statement.

It also said that it is not only a case of concealment of facts before the election authorities, but Singh has also cheated the people of his constituency by having misled them about his origin. ‘The issue also raises serious questions about the kind of politics BJP is indulging in. What is his party’s stand on the issue? Will it take action against its MLA who has breached all levels of political decency and has committed a fraud?’ the statement said.

A Delhi court had last week directed the police to lodge an FIR against Singh under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code for having committed the offences of forgery and cheating.

Meanwhile, AAP has introduced yet another innovative method to connect to people, ahead of possible assembly elections in Delhi.

Adding a new dimension to its ongoing signature campaign, the party has now initiated an online campaign, inviting people to shoot and send a short video to support fresh polls in Delhi.
