AAP demands Rs 1 crore relief for cops who died in road mishap

Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi chief minster Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday requested Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Najeeb Jung to give Rs 1 crore each as compensation to the families of two Delhi Police officers who were rammed by a cabbie in Kalindi Kunj during the wee hours on Sunday.

Kejriwal has also requested the L-G to provide best medical care to the third policeman, who was also injured in the accident while performing his duty.

Kejriwal also appealed to Jung to treat cops killed on duty as ‘martyrs’ and reminded that his brief government had made a policy of granting Rs 1 crore compensation to the families deceased cops. The former chief minister has demanded that this policy be made permanent and irreversible, since it is the duty of the state to take care of the families of police personnel who give up their lives to protect the residents of the national Capital. “The Delhi administration must ensure that the children of the martyred cops get the best possible education without any financial difficulty”, the party statement read.  It further said there was a strong need to improve the working conditions for cops.  “A safe and secure Delhi is only possible when the police force has adequate manpower and it is equipped to deal with all situations”, it added.
