“(Arvind) Kejriwal is the Ist photocopy of my favourite leader Imran Khan,” tweeted Multan resident Shahbaz Ansari. It is an indication of huge popularity of the AAP in Pakistan where the newbie party is seen as a potential model, which can be replicated to challenge the entrenched feudal-elitist political forces, dominated by a few families. Both PML(N) and PPP are family run political establishments.
The level of curiosity to know the results of Delhi Assembly Election was not only in India but similar excitement was spotted in Pakistan as well.
Since early Tuesday morning, Pakistani people had tuned their news channels telecasting Delhi election results. Whereas some people went online to get regular updates on the results. Few of them also opted for web TV, preferably Live Indian news channels, said Ali Hassan, another Multan resident in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
“Residents of Pakistan are fond of Arvind Kejriwal, so we were keen to know the results. It’s amazing to see a landslide victory in Delhi. I am proud of the newly formed party that achieved a lot in a short while,” said Aqueel Sheikh, an accountant in Defence Raya Golf & Country Club in Lahore.
Commenting on the commendable win of Kejriwal, Shahbaz Ansari, export manager at Life Pharmaceutical Company in Multan said: “I am very much pleased to see the Aam Aadmi Party standing on behalf of every Indian as their voice.” Whereas his colleague, Saleem Quershi said: “AAP fights for basic rights of people because of which the party was elected by large number of voters.”
Meanwhile, few of the Pakistanis who want better Indo-Pak relations are looking forward to Kejriwal. “I hope AAP will look forward to see Indo-Pak relations in a very organised manner,” said Zeeshan Haider.
