Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Satish Upadhyay has welcomed the budget for Delhi presented by the Union finance minister Arun Jaitley in Parliament on Friday.
‘This budget has taken special care of four major problems of Delhi like power, water, unauthorized colonies and security of women besides health, education and transport,’ said Upadhyay.
‘Reasonable efforts have been made in this budget to solve the problem of shortage of power and the burden of hefty power bills. There is a provision for constructing new substations,’ said BJP City chief.
Former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal criticised the Delhi budget. He said the party took U-turn on its election promises. Kejriwal tweeted that ‘BJP promised 30 percent reduction in tariff. It didn’t do it. Why this U-turn? BJP has made a U-turn on almost all poll promises.’
Kejriwal said the budget has neither tried to reduce corruption nor shown ways to deal with the tanker mafia. ‘There is no mention of how corruption would be reduced, which has increased a lot since the fall of AAP government. There is also no mention of how water starved areas in Delhi would get water, how tanker mafias would be controlled. There is also no mention of how electricity supply in Delhi would be improved. The budget does not address how people will get relief from rising prices of vegetables,’ Kejriwal tweeted.
‘The Delhi budget presented by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Lok Sabha on Friday is a complete betrayal with the residents of the national capital, who have been cheated by the BJP-led government once again,’ said AAP in a statement.
Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely slammed the Delhi budget and called it ‘directionless,’ adding that the government has not made such provisions in the budget that would bring good days to the people of Delhi as promised by the BJP.
