Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday alleged that inaction on part of the Delhi police, resulted in the tragic death of the farmer, who committed suicide at AAP’s Kisan rally on Wednesday. The party said that the police personnel did nothing when the farmer was committing suicide. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police said that they were probing the death.
Senior AAP leaders Kumar Vishwas, Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh addressed a press conference, where they blamed the Delhi Police for doing nothing to save the farmer’s life even after being told to do so. Speaking to the media after Gajendra Singh’s death, Sanjay Singh said: “We did everything to prevent the death. AAP volunteers risked their lives. Now, we cannot expect Arvind Kejriwal himself to climb the tree to save the man!” The party put the blame on Delhi Police, saying that cops are trained to climb trees and prevent such situations. AAP spokesperson Kumar Vishwas, who was speaking on stage when the farmer hung himself, appealed to all parties to stop the blame game and discuss the reasons behind the suicide.
“Had we stopped the programme, it would’ve become impossible to control the crowd. A stampede could have broken out,” said Sanjay Singh.
Kumar Viswas said: “AAP workers took the man to the hospital. The news of the farmer’s death came only after Arvind Kejriwal finished his speech.” When questioned by the media as to why Kejriwal addressed the rally after the incident, a sarcastic Ashutosh said: “If next time such an incident takes place, Delhi CM will himself climb the tree and save the person’s life.”
