AAP accuses Maken of providing ‘undue favours’ to private builders in flats for Kathputli colony

Losses to the exchequer were, according to AAP’s Ashish Khetan,  to the tune of approximately Rs 1,000 crore.

AAP candidate from New Delhi constituency and former journalist Ashish Khetan said that 17,500 square metres of DDA land was given to a construction company for a mere Rs 6 crore. The market price for that particular plot was Rs 1,000 crore.

AAP alleged that Congress was making the residents of Kathputli Colony undergo ‘hell’, after land to private builder was sold at such a low rate.

Khetan told the media the Congress had sold a piece of land to a private builder on the pretext of rehabilitation of Kathputli colony residents. He said the actual cost of the land, as per the document which he sought from the Delhi Development Authority, was about Rs.1,000 crore.

He further said that it was done during the stint of Ajay Maken, when he was union urban development minister. Senior congress leader Ajay Makan is currently the sitting Member of Parliament from the New Delhi constituency.

AAP also challenged senior Congress leader Ajay Maken to an open debate on the issue. Khetan further alleged that there is a nexus between the ruling Congress party and private builders. ‘It’s a scam like the coal and 2G scams,’ Khetan said.

Under the proposed in-situ rehabilitation plan, families will be provided flats in the housing complex, among other buildings coming up in place of slum clusters. Ajay Makan could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts to get his version of the story.
