The mobile application will allow a user to secretly make video and audio recordings without letting the person being filmed know. “As soon as a user starts recording using this application, the screen of the phone will go dark appearing to be switched-off,” a senior official associated with the project, said.
He said the app will link smartphones with internet connections to a secured government server. As a user records a video or audio, it will automatically be stored on the government’s server. “Even if the mobile is damaged, the data will not be lost,” he said.
Data recorded through the application will be accessed by government staff for further investigation.
The Delhi government aims to launch this application within a month. It also plans to re-launch its anti-corruption helpline number ‘1031’ from April 5. The number can be used by people to lodge complaints if they are harassed for bribes.
Arvind Kejriwal has often exhorted people to conduct sting operations against government officials who ask for bribe. He reiterated that in his speech at the Ram Lila grounds after he took oath in February this year. The AAP won a massive mandate in the Delhi elections on a promise to rid the capital of corruption. It has won 67 of Delhi’s 70 seats.
