9-yr-old killed as DU professor’s car hits bicycle

A nine-year-old boy was crushed to death after a 40-year-old lady assistant lecturer of Bhagini Nivedita College accidently hit his bicycle by her  car in South-west Delhi’s Chhawla area on Thursday afternoon.

The accused woman has been identified as Anupama Aggarwal, who was returning to her home from 
Jaffarpur Kalan area, where the college is situated.  

In the mid-way, she rammed her Maruti Alto car into the bicycle of a nine-year-old boy.

The victim has been identified as Nitesh, who is a resident of Chhawla area. According to the accused, the boy suddenly came in front of her car and she was unable to control her car and rammed into the bicycle.

According to the police, soon after the accident the professor got out of her car and immediately put the boy inside the car.  At that time, the boy was unconscious and was bleeding. She took her to the 
nearby hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, the hospital staff informed the police and in the meantime the professor herself went to the Chhawla police station and surrendered herself.  She narrated the incident to the police and based on her statement she was booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Her car has been taken into custody.

The police had informed the family of the victim and the body has been handed over to them after conducting the post-morterm examination.  The autopsy reports is awaited, police said. 

The victim was studying in a government school and at the time of the accident, he was going to buy some food from the market. In the meantime, some of the eye-witnesses told police that at the time of the incident, the professor was talking over phone while driving. However, the allegations are yet to be ascertained. Further investigation is underway, said police.
