9 patients die daily at AIIMS: RTI report

New Delhi: An RTI (Right to Information) inquiry has revealed that nine patients die on daily basis while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi.
Dr Siddhartha Satpathi from department of hospital management said that in the last one year, from April 2013 to March 2014, the Cardio-Neuro Centre (CNC) at the AIIMS had admitted total of 14,083 patients.
‘Out of them, 3,394 succumbed to their ailments while undergoing treatment’, he added.
Out of total 1,410 patients admitted in faculty one of the department, 226 sick people died while in faculty two, 251 patients passed away out of 1,010 patients admitted in the last 12 months.
In the nephrology department of the prestigious institute, 151 of the 8,139 patients breathed their last whereas in Gastroenterology department 448 people died out of total 2,674 undergoing treatment there.
Of the 1,672 patients admitted in the neurology department, 67 succumbed to their diseases.
