9 Maoists held in Chhattisgarh

In a big success for the Chhattisgarh police in their fight against Maoists, Pratapur Area Committee Commander, Rupjee alias Sobhrai Potai surrendered on Sunday at BSF camp in Antagarh, district Kanker, even as nine more Maoists, including two with rewards on their heads, were arrested in separate operations.

Rupiee’s surrender comes close on the heels of the laying down of arms by the master mind of the May 25 Jhiram Gahti massacre, Gudsa Usendi. 

Talking to reporters Pratappur SP RN Das confirmed that Rupiee has surrendered and said that the Maoist was involved in more than 18 cases, including the killing of five police informers in 2008 and 2010. He was also involved in the blasts at a school building and a hostel in Kodapakha in 2008 and the explosion of explosion of a BSNL tower in 2009. He was active since 2002. 

Sources claimed that after surrendered, Rupjee said he had taken the step as Maoists from Chhattisgarh were badly by their Andhra counterparts, who themselves preferred to stay in the background and pushed the others for the all the dirty violence.
