Having remained on the defensive following the sting operation by the Aam Admi Party (AAP) for the past two days, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday hit back accusing Arvind Kejriwal of double standards. ‘While his government resigned in January, nine of his MLAs appointed as chairpersons of district development committees continue to hold office and enjoy perks,’ said Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay.
‘These MLAs are still ruling Delhi government through District Development Committees. They should have resigned from their posts but they are still enjoying government cars, offices, servants and some also have bungalows,’ said Upadhayay. Delhi has 11 districts, of which the post of DDC chairperson in two districts are held by BJP as there is no AAP representative in these areas.
‘It shows their lust for power and its attempt to rule through remote control,’ he added. The AAP government in January had appointed chairpersons of 11 DDCs in the city including two MLAs of BJP – Sat Prakash Rana in South West and Ranjeet Singh in North East.
The AAP MLAs holding posts are - Sanjeev Jha for Central District, Manoj Kumar for East, Surender Singh for New Delhi, Akhilesh Pati Tripathi for North, Rajesh Garg for North-West, Dharmender Singh for Shahdara, Dinesh Mohaniya for South, Madan Lal for South-East and Jarnail Singh for West district. ‘We are doing public work in the absence of government. Also, the post is only for one year.
There is no question of resignation,’ said Dinesh Mohaniya, AAP MLA from Sangam Vihar, who recently carried out a sting on BJP leader Sher Singh Dagar. As per rule, the chairperson is entitled for a government vehicle, office, driver and personal staff.
