80-yr-old woman assaulted, robbed in Lajpat Nagar

According to police, the incident took place on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, when the woman, identified as Usha Khanna (80) was sleeping in her bedroom at the ground floor. Three unknown men with their faces masked broke into her room.

She got up on hearing the noise and saw them. When she tried to raise an alarm, one of the accused slapped her thrice making her unconscious. The accused then tied her hands and legs with a rope. Further, they ransacked her room and took away the jewellery she was wearing.

In the early hours of Friday, when Khanna gained consciousness, she raised an alarm to inform her daughter and son-in-law, with whom she was residing. When the couple heard her screams, they found the room ransacked.

The couple immediately made a call to the police control room and rushed her to the nearby hospital where she is still undergoing treatment. ‘Her condition is stable but she has been traumatized,’ the police official said. ‘Her statement has been recorded and based on the information given by her, we are investigating the case to establish the identities of the three accused. Meanwhile, the footages of the CCTV cameras installed in the locality are also being looked at’, he added.

During investigation it was found that jewellery worth Rs 2 lakhs, cash along with her mobile phone has been robbed by the accused. A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Lajpat Nagar police station against the unknown persons.
