8 girls rescued in Goa

Women are being lured to work as dancers and then being forced into prostitution in Goa, as police found out when they nabbed the masterminds behind this attempt in the famed Calangute beach area of the state recently.

Acting on a tip-off that some girls – who had been procured as dancers and would be used for prostitution – were being brought to a hotel at night in Tivaiwaddo area of Calangute, the cops swung into action and raided the place with the help of some NGO members and panch witnesses.

The cops rescued eight girls and nabbed two of the accused, namely Javeed from Hyderabad, and another person named Umapati Damodaran (32) from Chittor. The duo had registered themselves as guests, who were part of a conference in the hotel. Under the pretext of a stage performance, the girls were made to dance in a closed door private party with the male members of the said conference group, before being made available to them for prostitution on payment of extra money, police said.

The rescued girls were later sent to the state protective home at Merces, near Panjim. The accused were also carrying out the prostitution trade within the vicinity  of educational institution, police said, adding that the Calangute police had registered a case under the Immoral (Prevention) Act 1956 against the accused and further investigations were in progress.
