8 fresh PEs against Tatas and others

The new set of PEs involves Tata Motors and Tata Steels, mentions alleged favours extended to former DG (Hydrocarbons) VK Sibal by Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited and former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda for demanding Rs 150 crore for granting iron ore mine licence. Besides, a former Air India official Ramesh Nambiar and lobbyist Deepak Talwar have also been booked by the CBI.

The CBI’s track record in such sensitive investigations is rather poor as in most cases PEs don’t convert to regular cases. Former Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda along with unknown officials of Jharkhand government have been booked.

The third PE is about the alleged working of touts and middlemen and kickbacks in the aviation sector in which Niira Radia, Ramesh Nambiar, a former Air India official, Deepak Talwar, and unknown officials of Ministry of Civil Aviation have been booked.

The fourth PE is about the alleged market manipulation and hammering of stocks of Unitech by Niira Radia. The fifth one is about the supply of low floor buses by Tata Motors to Government of Tamil Nadu under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme of centre. Ravi Kant, a top functionary of Tata Motors, was in touch with Nira Radia.

The sixth PE is against chartered accountant Rajiv Gupta, unknown public servants and private persons who have been booked for alleged criminal misconduct. The seventh PE is about illegal payments to IT officials. The eighth PE is about allegations of providing accommodation entries, creation of paper companies, bogus billing and cash payment.
