70 Vyampam accused write to Prez seeking bail/nod to end lives

The 70 accused have been arrested on <g data-gr-id="23">charge</g> of cracking <g data-gr-id="24">thepre</g>-medical test conducted by scam-ridden Vyapam, using unfair means.

“We, the <g data-gr-id="27">under trial</g> accused in judicial custody, are in jail since a long time. As a result of this, our future is in complete darkness and we are under tremendous mental and social pressure. This is developing negative thoughts of suicidal tendency among us,” says the letter, which is signed on behalf of the students by <g data-gr-id="28">A S</g> Yadav, father of one of the 70 accused lodged in Gwalior jail. “We are mostly junior doctors, who are working and others pursuing medical (MBBS) course. Our family and our financial condition <g data-gr-id="49">has</g> turned grim and our family is on the brink of starvation as we are
languishing in jails since a long time,” it states.

Due to disparity in justice delivery system, all junior doctors are languishing in Gwalior jail, whereas our counterparts charged with the same sections (of IPC) at Jabalpur, <g data-gr-id="37">Bhopal</g> and other places have got <g data-gr-id="26">bails</g> from Sessions Courts and High Courts, the letter alleged. “To save officers and staffers of (Vyapam) Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal’s (entrance committee), counselling committee, who had indulged in wrongdoings, hapless and weak category medical students have been made accused and denied bail for political reasons,” the under-trials alleged in the letter. “This is being done to develop criminal mentality among the junior doctors and medical students,” it said.

“Lastly, we request the <g data-gr-id="34">honourable</g> President to bring uniformity in justice delivery system to facilitate bail to us so that our medical practice and studies are not hindered for a long time. “We humbly pray to you for proper justice and bail relief or allow us to end our lives,” the letter also sent to Prime Minister Office, CJI, MP High Court Chief Justice, and others, says.

‘Propaganda agency may be behind smear campaign against MP, Chouhan on Vyapam’
Observing that Madhya Pradesh’s image is being tarnished globally over the Vyapam scam under a ‘well-planned conspiracy’, the BJP mouthpiece ‘Charaiveti’ has said the role of propaganda agency cannot be ruled out in running a “smear campaign” against the state and its Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The editorial appeared in the latest issue of the monthly Hindi magazine which also blasted Congress leader Digvijay Singh for “defaming” Chouhan and his government.

“Madhya Pradesh’s image has been tarnished and butchered globally under a well-thought of <g data-gr-id="80">screenplay</g>. Now everybody has started feeling so. There are proven instances in the country and world that many liaising- propaganda agencies run such campaign to destabilise <g data-gr-id="79">government</g>,” its editor Jairam Shukla wrote. “Italy from where the dictionary has got the word mafia was infamous for such campaign...Such agencies destabilise or topple national and provisional governments in the US, Latin America, Europe and African countries. “The role of the propaganda agency can’t be ruled out in the light of the smear campaign that was run and being run to defame MP and damage Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s image,” the editorial said, adding that a misinformation campaign was run to “exaggerate” the death toll related to the scam.

Referring to the recovery of Rs 10 lakh from Vyapam scam whistleblower Prashant Pandey’s wife in Indore, the editorial accused him of “playing into the hands of Digvijay.” “Now the doubts are turning true. Pandey’s wife had no explanation for the seized money. Police prime <g data-gr-id="71">facie</g> feel it was a hawala transaction.

Enforcement Director and Income Tax investigations will unravel how many tranches of such Rs 10 lakhs, had been delivered earlier.
