6.8 magnitude earthquake rocks Delhi, NCR

A major earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale hit the National Capital Region on Wednesday. In Delhi and NCR, people rushed out of their homes as the tremors were felt twice within a span of one minute leading to huge scare.
The earthquake tremors were felt at around 7:25/26 pm with 6.8 magnitude. Though the Delhi Metro is plying but people have reportedly refused to enter buildings or stations, preferring to wait outside in the open. The region, on Sunday, had also felt tremors for one minute with 6.2 magnitude.
“I was in the office when quake rocked the city. The office premises started shaking following which staff rushed towards the open area. The office building was vacated by security personnel and we were allowed to re-enter after 30 minutes. In our office locality, almost all buildings were vacated by the security staff. Though we were unhurt but it was very scary for us,” said Gaurav Khanna, an executive working with an organisation in Connaught Place area.
The Railway officials, however, denied halting train services but have asked to run trains with a precautionary speed of less than 40 kmph till every train reaches the next station/section. This way, train services were running with normal speed on all lines by 7.25 pm.
No damage has been reported from anywhere so far.
The region, on last Sunday, had witnessed a similar situation when strong tremors were felt triggering a sense of panic among people, many of whom rushed out of their homes for safety.
People had ran out of their residences as the tremors continued for over a minute leading to a huge scare.
As a precautionary measure, Metro services were temporarily halted in the national Capital. The earthquake tremors were felt at around 4.01/02pm.
