65-yr-old held for rape cases

A 65-year-old man, who is suspected to have lured many minor girls and raped them, was arrested on Tuesday evening from his house.
The accused Rajkumar Soni fell in the police net when some women from Sundernagar area complained with women’s police cell two days ago about Soni’s activities.
Soni, a resident of Purani Basti, was frequently spotted on the streets of Sundernagar, luring minor girls to eat poha, jalebi and other sweets on the roadside stalls.
Acting on a tip off, the police traced a 14-year-old girl who was Soni’s victim a year ago. Soni had as usual lured her to eat with him on the roadside and later called her home to be a domestic help. On reaching his house, Soni took the girl to his terrace and raped her. He quietened her with Rs 500 thereafter. The fatherless girl’s mother works as a domestic help. Police said that the girl had narrated her agony after being coaxed into telling the truth.
Soni runs a jewellery shop in Halwai Line. Police arrested him under section 376 of IPC.
