65-year-old burnt to death in GK-I, wife alleges murder

A 65-year-old man was found burnt to death at his residence in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash area. The deceased’s wife has alleged that the landlord’s family set him afire.

Police has registered a case after the deceased’s wife, Guddi, said the incident was not a case of death in an accidental fire. She said her husband, Kapil Dev, had been a tenant for the past 40 years in a single room located on the first floor of a house in Greater Kailash Part-1. She added that the landlord wanted him to vacate the premises.

A police officer said, ‘Dev’s landlady called the fire services on Thursday evening after she saw smoke emanating from his room. Three fire tenders rushed to the spot, battled the flames for half-an-hour and recovered the victim’s body. He had suffered 100 per cent burns.’
Dev ran a business in antique items.

After getting news of her husband’s death, Guddi who has been residing with her married daughter in Gurgaon for the past several years, registered a murder complaint against the landlord’s family, claiming they had set her husband on fire.

‘The landlord’s family is being questioned. Police is probing all angles to ascertain if it was a case of accidental fire or murder,’ said the officer.
