64-yr-old retd govt employee found murdered in East Delhi

The deceased identified as Vijay Kumar lived with his wife, Vasundhra who worked in the Income Tax department. The incident came to light at around 2:15pm when Kumar’s daughter, Ambali, a senior producer at the Rajya Sabha TV went to check on her father.

Meanwhile, Kumar’s wife, Vasundhra was reportedly not present at the flat. Investigators said that Kumar was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen. Cash worth Rs 10,000 and a TV set was found missing from the flat. Senior police officers of East district said that the accused might have been known to Kumar as there were no signs of forced entry. One of the neighbours living on the second floor, who made the PCR call told Millennium Post how she spotted Ambali sitting on the stairs weeping uncontrollably.

She said, “It was around 2 pm when I saw Ambali sitting on the stairs. She was crying. As she comes here often to visit her parents, I asked her what was wrong. She then told me that her father had been stabbed to death. On this, we informed the security guards and the police.”

Investigators said the entry of the accused was friendly as there were no signs of forced entry on the door. Ambali told cops that when she reached, the wooden door was wide open while the iron door was slightly ajar. Kumar was lying on the floor, under the mattress while the room was in complete disarray.

Sources said that there were tea cups lying on the table indicating that the culprits were possibly known to Kumar.

Police said that they have taken the body for post-mortem examination. Talking about the the victim, Ritambara, one of the close friends of the Kumar family said, “Vijay and his wife had been living in the flat for the past five months. Their daughter also lives in Samachar Apartments but in another block. She used to come regularly to check on her parents,”

Samachar Apartments has a fairly elaborate security system. A security guard posted at one of the three gates of the apartment said that entry is allowed only through Gate number 1, while exit is allowed only through Gate number 3.  On the other hand, the second gate remains closed.

Investigators also said that there are 3 CCTV cameras right next to the building where the Kumars stay. They are scanning  CCTV grabs to establish the identity of the culprits. A case under Section 302 (Murder) of the IPC has been registered at the Mayur Vihar police station.
