On the first day of launching of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) on the 45-kilometre stretch of Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, the Noida traffic police sent as many as 62 challans through speed post for the violation of traffic rules.
The traffic police informed that the CCTV cameras caught the violations, following which, the move was initiated. We have captured the images of over-speeding vehicles from the system ground and then collected details of the vehicles. We have sent the photographs of vehicles along with speed details through post,” said RN Mishra, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) of Gautam Buddh Nagar.
The official informed that the occupants of the vehicles have two options. First, would be to pay challan at the district police head quarters within seven days or to pay challan by appearing before the local court. “At the police headquarters, the occupant will have to pay a fine of Rs 300. On failing to meet the deadline, a fine will be Rs 700 as per the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, would be imposed” said the official.
The Noida Authority has also issued a public notice, warning motorists to drive with speed limit on the expressway.
“Those violating traffic norms would be issued with e-challans. Details of their vehicles would be updated on the transport department’s database,” said Sandeep Chandra, in-charge of Noida Traffic Cell, adding that the speed limit on the expressway is 100 kmph for four-wheelers and LMVs, and 60 kmph for two-wheelers and heavy vehicles.
