61-yr-old doctor gunned down in his clinic

A 61-year-old ayurvedic doctor was shot dead by unidentified men at his clinic in Palam Village in South-west Delhi on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Dr Balwan Singh Ramawat.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 10 pm at Ramawat’s clinic when renovation work was going on. Some unidentified men came and fired at him. One of the bullets hit his neck while he was sitting in the clinic.

Senior police officials of the South-west district confirmed that the crime came to light at around 10 pm after a few locals heard a gunshot at the clinic of Dr Balwan Singh Ramawat.

“A police team reached the crime spot and rushed Ramawat to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. A case of murder has been registered at the Palam Village police station against unknown persons,” said Surender Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-west).

As per preliminary investigation by the police, one of the motives behind Ramawat’s murder could be  personal enmity or monetary dispute.

According to a police officer privy to the investigation, apart from running a clinic in  Palam Village, Ramawat allegedly lent money on interest to people. Meanwhile, a senior police officer allegedly said that since there were no CCTV cameras in the vicinity where the incident took place, it is difficult to establish the exact sequence of events.

A senior officer said that one of the locals saw an unidentified man coming out of Ramawat’s clinic and fleeing towards the main road after he heard the gunshot. However, the eyewitness could not see that man’s face.

Police have formed two teams to investigate the case and search operations have been initiated to nab the assailants. Moreover, police are also questioning family members and friends to establish if he had any personal enmity. Further investigation is underway.
