61-year-old man gets 10 years for raping son’s wife

A 61-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in jail by a Delhi court for raping his mentally retarded daughter-in-law.
Additional Sessions Judge Vijay Kumar Dahiya sentenced west Delhi resident Krishan saying ‘a daughter-in-law is at par with one’s own daughter’ but the convict ‘blemished’ the sanctity of the ‘pious relationship’ with the ‘heinous’ act.
‘The convict is father-in-law of the prosecutrix and in the other sense of the word, daughter-in-law is at par with one’s own daughter. Cupidity hanged so heavy in the mind of the accused (Krishan) that he has blemished the sanctity of the pious relation with daughter-in-law by ravishing the prosecutrix, his own son’s wife...
‘I am convinced that convict deserves no mercy and any leniency shown to the convict would be highly misplaced and the convict is hereby sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years and fine to the tune of Rs 20,000 for the offence under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code,’ the ASJ said.
The court directed that the fine, if recovered, be paid to the victim as compensation.
The court convicted Krishan for raping his daughter-in-law relying on her testimony as well as the medical evidence.
