60 govt schools to conduct martial art training to girls

In order to empower the girls students, by teaching them martial art techniques so that they could defend themselves in the hour of need, Directorate of Education of Delhi has decided to impart the coaching in 60 government schools.
Amit Singla, Directorate of Education, Delhi, said, 'We have decided to train the students in six martial art forms – Judo, Taekwondo, Karate, Wushu, Jeet kune-do and Sqay – through the different state sports associations such as Karate-Do Association, Delhi Judo Counil, Delhi Amateur Wushu Association, Delhi Taekwondo Association, Sqay Association of Delhi, and Delhi Jeet Kune-Do Council.'
Singla said in the second phase, DoE has plans to include all government affiliated schools of Delhi. 'Girls must know how to defend themselves. This will also reassure the parents that their daughtera are safe and secure,' he added.
Easc association, said Singla, has been alloted 10 government schools for training. 'Each association has prepared a one -week training module that will start from 15 April. The self defence camp is available to students free of cost,' added Singla.
DoE has asked the head of the schools concerned to encourage the girls in their schools to attend the martial art training.
