An earthquake of moderate intensity on Wednesday rocked Assam and the North East region, leading panic-stricken people to run out of their houses for safety. There was no report of casualty or major damage to property so far though there were reports of minor cracks in some buildings in Nagaon district, police said. The epicenter of the quake, measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, was located at a depth of 89 km underneath the earth’s crust along the Indo-Myanmar border region, according to the Regional Seismological Centre in Shillong.
