58-year-old lady succumbs to swine flu, toll 14

One more death, this time of a 58-year-old woman, was reported from Kalra Hospital, Rajouri Garden, on Monday, taking the swine flue death toll to 14. The victim was a resident of the Uttamnagar area of the capital.
Swine flu (H1N1) continues to spread in the capital with 36 cases reported on Monday, taking the toll to 1098 positive cases. An official from the Health Department of Delhi said that 'Among the reported cases, around 30 were self detected.
'There has been no further reports of deaths owing to the H1N1 Virus. This year, only 14 people have succumbed to the disease so far. The government is doing its best in providing treatment to people who are down with H1N1 virus in government hospitals,’ he added.
Delhi government has designated 22 hospitals, including five private ones, for swine flu treatment. These hospitals have been directed to have isolation wards for extremely critical patients.
Doctors from the city hospitals said that 'Swine flu is treatable with Tamiflu medicines. Preventive vaccines are also available in the market but it is not advised for general intake as per the recent guidelines issued by the health ministry.
