5,724 illicit liquor bottles seized

The Excise Department of Delhi Government has recently seized 5,724 bottles of different brands of illicit liquor during raids carried out in the national capital.
‘The Excise Intelligence Bureau of the department has seized 5,724 bottles of illicit liquor of different brands from various parts of the national capital during a special drive...,’ Excise Commissioner J B Singh said.
With the recent recovery, the department has seized a total of 31,680 bottles of illicit liquor so far this year.
Singh said duty was not paid for a lot of illicit liquor bottles in the capital and these were being carried by the accused unauthorisedly.
He said several accused were arrested and handed over to police.
According to the Excise Department, two persons from Narela — Virender Sharma and Aadal — who were carrying 2,510 liquor bottles for sale in Haryana, were nabbed and their vehicles were seized.
Singh said prior to this drive, the Excise Department during raids conducted at various places had seized 25,956 bottles of illicit liquor and cases were registered against the accused under the Delhi Excise Act 2009.
‘Till now, the Excise Department has seized 31,680 bottles of illicit liquor in Delhi,’ Singh added.
He said raids will continue in the capital to check bootlegging.
