57-year-old businessman dies in scuffle over parking

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when four men identified as Karthik (28), Prashant (50), Ashok (57) and his son Mohit (28) got into an argument with their neighbour Rajendra Bhatiya, the deceased, who ran a trading company.

‘The argument soon turned violent. Bhatiya fell on the ground and rushed to nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead’, informed a police officer.

Bhatiya owned a three-storey building in west Patel Nagar. In 2012, he sold out his second floor to someone who further sold it to Karthik. In the same year, Karthik rented out the floor to Prashant, who started living there with his family.

Sooner, both the families (Prashant’s and Bhaitya’s) started having frequent fights over parking space. To resolve the problem, Bhatiya had divided the space outside their house to avoid further conflicts.

Bhatiya then instructed his sons — Mokshit and Manish to park their vehicle at the dedicated area.
On Saturday evening, when Mokshit parked his car at the dedicated parking area, Prashant had a heated argument with him saying that the way he used to park his car created problems for him. It was learnt that Mokshit used to park his car diagonally to avoid traffic jam in the narrow lane which made it difficult for Prashant to park his car.

Speaking to Millennium Post, Mokshit informed that they were having arguments with them for a while now. ‘They were having some water supply issues for which they wanted access to terrace. But my father had refused him the access which reportedly annoyed him.’

Meanwhile, on Sunday afternoon, Prashant along with his landlord Karthik came to our residence. Later, two property dealers, Ashok and Mohit also joined them. ‘Initially, all four were having normal conversation but it turned violent and they started beating him up’, said Mokshit.

The police have arrested all the accused. ‘We have booked them under the section 304 (culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code,’ said Alok Kumar Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) said, adding that ‘it is too early to say anything as the autopsy report is still awaited.’ Bhatiya is survived by his wife and two sons.
