55-yr-old killed, son injured over property dispute in Gr Noida

Tension prevailed in Greater Noida after a 55-year-old Dalit was brutally murdered and his son got critically injured over an old rivalry of land dispute on Wednesday morning. The victims’ family members and villagers protested and stopped traffic for immediate arrest of the culprits. When the police tried to pacify them, the villagers pelted stones.

Police personnel have been deployed to avert any untoward incident and later the police dispersed them by lathicharging. Police have registered an FIR against accused people and unknown assailants at Knowledge Park police station.

The incident took place around 9.30 am when Jagdish Jatav (60) and his son Dharmender Jatav were traveling on their bike to reach district court to appear in land dispute proceeding.

The victims’ side alleged that the opposite group members who were also on their way to reach court in a tractor, attacked them.

Police said the accused people first attacked the duo with heavy objects and then killed Jagdish by slitting his throat by a sharp edged weapon. Police said the duo was found in a pool of blood in the field of Kambakhpur village of Greater Noida.

As the incident sparked ruckus in the areas, the villagers rushed on the spot and brought critically injured Dharmender to Yatharth hospital, Greater Noida. Police said his condition is critical.

The matter was later informed to local police. Police official, however, reached on the spot but could not take the body in their possession as the locals held the body in their possession and started protesting against the police at the crime scene.

Police said they tried to bring the body at Yamuna E-Way to block the carriageway but the police dispersed the villagers and then took the body for post-mortem.

“Both groups of people have been fighting over a dispute of a four acre land since 1992. We have registered FIR against the people involved in the case. A separate FIR has been registered against unknown people who attacked on the police party. We are investigating the case,” said Abhishek Singh, Superintendent of police  (Rural), Greater Noida.
