502 % hike in per capital income in Delhi in 14 years, says Sheila

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday released ‘Estimates of State Domestic Product – 2012-13’, Delhi brought out by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics and expressed her happiness at the growth in per capita income in the national capital, as shown in the report.
The estimates have been prepared as per the method approved by the Central Statistics Office of the Indian government.
Dikshit, while briefing the media, said that the report reflects that the economy of Delhi is progressing on the path of sustainable economic growth. It also reveals the dominance of the service sector in GSDP of Delhi which is around 81.54 per cent and is in tune with the industrial policy of Delhi. The policy envisages promotion to non-polluting units especially the service sector. Dikshit further claimed that Delhi’s position, as per the estimates of the GSDP(Gross State Domestic Product), is much better than states like Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Bihar. Delhi is ranked tenth among all states/union territoreis in respect of total GSDP.
The state income or the net state domestic product of Delhi at current prices, is estimated to touch Rs 2,94,242 crore in 2011-12 and Rs 3,47,192 crore in 2012-13 as compared to Rs 94,717 crore during 2004-05, registering an annual compound growth rate of 17.63 per cent (2004-05 to 2012-13).
The per capita income of Delhi has been increasing every year and it is expected to touch Rs 2,01,083 for the year 2012-13 against Rs 1,73,686 during 2011-12, the survey report said. The report also states, ‘that Delhi saw an the annual growth of 15.7 per cent in the previous year and is ranked in this respect is ranked first among all states and union territories. Delhi’s per capita income is about 3 times higher than its neighbouring state Haryana, where the per capita income is Rs. 1,24,000.
The per capita income in Delhi crossed the lakh mark (Rs 1,11,756) during 2008-09 and further improved to Rs 1,27,026 during 2009-10.
The per capita income in Delhi during 1998-99 was just Rs 40,060 against Rs 2,01,083 for the year 2012-13 which reflects a mammoth hike of 502 per cent during the last 14 years of the present government.
Dikshit added that the share of the service sector in the GSDP in Delhi is about 81.54 per cent, followed by the secondary sector at 17.69 per cent and primary sector at 0.77 per cent.
‘This establishes the effect of our industrial policy which promotes non-polluting industries,’ she said. Delhi is also developing as a major centre for service sector leaving behind neighbouring cities like Noida and Gurgaon resulting in more employment opportunities in the city, the Chief Minister said.
The youth prefer Delhi over other metro cities to look for job opportunities.This reflects the relevance of the sound and pragmatic economic policies of the city government.
