5,000 officers to monitor polling stations in Rajasthan

The election Commission has launched a high-tech awareness campaign and released posters under its SWIP programme to educate and inspire electorates to vote. Posters, customized messages for WhatsApp and audio-visual films will be used to tap voters from all segments.

In an attempt to increase the polling percentage, the commission will send customized messages and play slides at movie theatres to engage young voters. ‘We have identified those segments which generally do not vote or are left out. Based on these groups, we have launched campaigns,’ said Ashok Jain, the chief electoral officer of Rajasthan.

‘We are targeting at least 10% increase in total turnout in this assembly polls compared to last. Our endeavor is to convey message that election day is not a holiday and voters should exercise their right fearlessly,’ Jain said. Posters and stickers with caricatures too were launched which will be placed at areas of high footfall, buses and other public places.  For public, EC will also issue voter slips and will be sent to their door steps.
