Police on Monday booked 500 people and arrested ten of them a day after clashes between farmers and police took place in which over 18 persons were injured.
Meanwhile, BJP has demanded unconditional release of the ten farmers and activists, saying that it has chalked out a plan for agitation in support of the farmers’ demand of compensation for their land which has been submerged in the water of Gokul barrage.
‘The arrested farmers and activists of BJYM should be released unconditionally and cases against them should be withdrawn. The farmers should be paid compensation four times to present circle rates,’ BJP spokesman Chandra Mohan told reporters at Damodarpura village this afternoon.
The BJP leader has attributed the incident to ‘carelessness and unnecessary rigid’ attitude of the Uttar Pradesh government.
‘BJP will not stop the agitation till farmers are paid compensation for the land inundated due to faulty design of Gokul barrage,’ he added.
Earlier, in a meeting held in Damodarpura village, state president of BJP Kisan Morcha, Vijai Pal Singh Tomar, demanded stern action against the officials responsible for using force. ‘Judicial probe into the whole incident should be ordered,’ he stated.
