A five-year-old girl, Alisha, suffering from swine flu succumbed to the disease in the national Capital, taking the toll to 10 this year, an official said on Thursday.
According to the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Alisha died on February 13 at Hindu Rao hospital in the city. “The death happened much before, however, it was reported on February 26,” said an official of the DHS. The DHS also said that 137 new cases of swine flu were found positive on Thursday. With this, the total number of swine flu cases this year has reached 2,708.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has directed all schools to display public notices about the flu on notice boards and speak about it during the morning assembly.
“All heads of government, government-aided and unaided recognised schools are directed to display the message, enclosed as ‘Public Notice’, on noticeboards to enlighten students regarding the symptoms of swine flu and precautions to be taken,” the circular issued by the DoE stated. “During morning assembly, children should be made aware of the ‘do’s and dont’s’ with respect to the H1N1 virus. They should be encouraged to practice personal hygiene. Lastly, children with flu symptoms should be advised to stay at home until they are completely cured,” the circular said.
