5-yr-old schoolgirl killed in city road

A five-year-old student of Air Force School was killed in an accident when a private school van rammed into a car after jumping a red light on Tuesday afternoon in Delhi cantonment area of south-west district. The errant driver was arrested soon after the accident.
Around 2 pm, the Omni van carrying nine students of Air Force School, Subroto Park, jumped the red-light and rammed head-on into a Maruti Swift near Dhaula Kuan metro station.
‘The van turned turtle and collided with a divider. Gauri Trivedi, who was sitting on the front seat, was killed while the other students and the driver escaped with injuries. Kanika (18), who was driving the Maruti Swift, received minor injuries on her forehead,’ the official added.
Gauri was an UKG student and was staying with her family at Hari Nagar. ‘She was immediately rushed to Safdarjung hospital where the doctors pronounced the girl dead on arrival’ the official said.
The school van driver was identified as Sumit, a resident of Uttam Nagar, who was driving recklessly besides violating traffic rules. Sumit has been booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence.
