5-year-old dies, mother injured after portion of roof collapses

According to the police, the incident was reported to the Police Control Room at around 7.40 am on Thursday and a team reached the spot. Soon after the incident, both the victims were rushed to the nearby hospital by the locals. 

The victims have been identified as Pradeep (5) and Sangeeta (40). The hospital authorities pronounced Pradeep dead on arrival whereas Sangeeta is being treated for her injuries on her left hand. 

It was learnt that the father of Pradeep is a vegetable vendor and he, along with his elder son, had a narrow escape.

They hail from Uttar Pradesh and for the past four months they had shifted to their present residence in Palam area. 

The police further added that it is assumed that the mishap occurred due to rain as some portion of the roof loosened up and a piece of plaster got detached from it. 

However, the exact reason is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, Pradeep’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway.
