4,339 ROs and 1,805 LPG distributorships under SC quota till Oct

Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas Panabaka Lakshmi informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply on Tuesday that 4,339 retail outlet dealerships (ROs) and 1,805 LPG distributorships have been allotted under the Scheduled Castes (SC) category in the country as on 1 October. These include the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitraks (RGGLVs) of  public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) Indian Oil Corp Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd, and Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd.

Lakshmi also informed that as on 1 October, 2012,, there were 659 RO dealerships and 485 LPG distributorships including RGGLVs under the SC category in the country awaiting commissioning.  She added that the main reason for pendency of RO dealerships under the SC category is the non-availability of suitable plots for development of the ROs at the advertised locations. In view of this, all pending letter of intent (LoI) holders have recently been advised to arrange suitable land at a place of their choice anywhere in the country irrespective of state/ class of market for setting up of RO dealerships, subject to the offered land meeting techno-commercial viability norms.

The minister added that delays in commissioning of LPG distributorships are caused by delays in approvals and statutory licenses from authorities like the Petroleum & Explosives Safety Organization (PESO).
