A 40-year-old woman was gang-raped by two men in South Delhi’s Mehrauli area on Wednesday evening. The two accused persons, Pawan and Lovely have been arrested, police said. The woman had befriended Pawan who owns a crockery shop and even invested Rs 25,000 cash in his business. Both the accused are in the age group of 30-35 years.
According to the police, the woman who works in a beauty parlour lives in the Kishangarh area of Mehrauli. Few days back, she went to a crockery shop in her area and after buying a few items, she started talking to the shop owner identified as Pawan. She then started talking to him about the profit he made and even invested Rs 25,000 cash. They gradually started meeting each other and became intimate. Once he won her trust, Pawan took her to a friend’s flat on Wednesday evening at around 5.30 pm where he called in another shopkeeper, Lovely. They then raped her and threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone.
Following this incident, the woman approached the local police station and filed an FIR against the culprits. The medical examination of the woman at a nearby hospital too confirmed sexual assault after which the duo was apprehended, police said.
During police interrogation, both the accused admitted to raping the woman.
“A case of gang-rape and cheating has been registered against the accused persons under appropriate sections of the IPC at the Mehrauli police station. We have arrested them,” said a senior police officer.
