The almost 40-year-old Badarpur Thermal Power Station is still smoothly generating power in full capacity. But since most of the time, the power generated is not used by Discoms, so the plant's unit is being deliberately stopped, said general manager, NTPC N K Kothari on Tuesday.
The Badarpur Thermal power Station was commissioned in 26 July,1973. It has five Units, which has production capacity about 705 Mega Watt. This power station is completely dedicated to providing power for the National Capital. Kothari further said that he had to cut off 15-20 per cent production of total generation. While the Badarpur Thermal Power Station is used in full-swing during peak load periods, the rest of the time, power station's Units have to closed due to non consumption of power. On the Other hand, power distribution companies also do prior announcement of power cut off in residential's areas.
Power watchdog Delhi Electricty regulatory Commission is always batting for the city's private Discoms. BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna and TATA Power Delhi are making losses due to fuel surcharge and costly purchasing power from northern grids. Today Delhi Peak Load, met during the last 24 hours, was 3061 MW. The withdrawal of Power from generating stations within Delhi's own power station was 1329 MW. The rest of the withdrawl from central sector stations was to the tune of 1732 MW.
Kothari said that NTPC Badarpur is fully committed to social responsibilities. A comprehensive corporate social responsibility policy has been developed for the neighbouring colonies like Molar band, Aali Gaon and Madan pur Khadar. Our CSR Activities are broadly classified into three Education,Vocational training and health Sectors.
