4-storeyed building collapses in Gautampuri area

A three-storey building collapsed in east Delhi’s Gautampuri area during the wee hours of Wednesday. Fortunately, five persons who were inside the building escaped few seconds before the building collapsed. Two occupants suffered injuries.
The incident took place at around 3.30 am when a call was received at the fire department about the collapse of the building in Gali No 20 in Gautampuri area. “No casualty or injuries have been reported. The building measured approx 25sq yards. It was quite old and no fresh construction was reported,” said EDMC official, adding that two other properties which seemed dangerous were also got vacated for demolition to ensure any eventuality.
Living on the ground floor, the family rushed out as soon as they felt the building tremour. Within seconds of their emergence, it collapsed. 17 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The building’s faulty design is suspected to have caused the collapse.
