Four women died while 16 others were critically injured in a road accident in Noida’s Sector 71 on Monday morning. According to the police, all of them were working in a private company. They met with the accident when their bus collided with a truck that was carrying cement. The victims suffered serious injuries and were admitted in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at nearby hospitals where four were declared brought dead while out of the 16 who were injured, condition of two still remain critical.
The police have registered a case but have not identified the errant truck driver who is still at large. The employees of the company held a protest demanding adequate compensation to the families of the victims.
According to the police, the incident took place at 6:30 am at Sector 71 intersection when employees of Motherson Company, a manufacturing firm of automobile parts, were travelling from Mohan Nagar (Ghaziabad) to Phase-II (Sector 82). As the bus was waiting at a red light, a speeding truck hit it hard from the front. The impact was so big that the truck turned turtle over the bus. The passers-by called the police and the truck was removed with the help of crane to rescue the victims. Following the incident, long traffic jams followed. A case has been registered at Sector 49 police station in this regard.
The victims, however, blamed police apathy during rescue work. ‘We have been asking for ambulances right from the morning but the responsibility was being shifted constantly from Ghaziabad to Delhi and from Delhi to Ghaziabad. It has been more than an hour but there is no ambulance as yet,’ said a victim who had managed to rescue himself just after the accident. Police identified the deceased as Ranjita (27), Monika Tyagi (35) Prema Rani (33), Maduri (22) and added that they all were residents of Ghaziabad.
Meanwhile, Ravindra and Geeta were seriously injured and were kept in ICU in Kailash Hospital. The doctors informed that the others were being treated and would be discharged later in the day. The
victims are at Kailash Hospital, Jagdamba Hospital and District Hospital.
In another incident, a 30-year-old man was killed at Mahamaya flyover when a bus crushed him to death. Police have not yet identified the deceased but have seized the bus and registered a case against the driver in Sector 39 police station.
