PM Narendra Modi-led NDA government seems to be following the footsteps of its predecessors when it comes to appeasing minorities.
According to a latest report, during the NDA regime 3.6 lakh minority teachers have been appointed under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), a Central government-sponsored scheme to provide assistance to state governments/UTs for additional teachers to maintain pupil-teacher ratio.
In the category of teachers’ appointment in minority concentration districts, Kerala stands at the top with 1,23,587 recruitments, followed by UP and West Bengal with 74,817 and 62,361 appointments, respectively, stated a report submitted by Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani in Lok Sabha on Monday.
According to the report titled ‘Minority teachers under SSA’, no recruitment has taken place in Sikkim, Manipur, while in Jammu & Kashmir only 20 teachers have been recruited upto 2015-16.
In Kerala, number of teachers appointed under SSA in Palakkad district is 9,825--- highest in the state out of 14 minority concentration districts, followed by Wayanad (9,752), Allappuzzha (9,552), Mallapuram (9,525), Kozhikode (9,323), etc.
In UP, out of 21 minority concentration districts, highest number of teachers appointment has happened in Sidharth Nagar (7,865), while Bijnaur district has recruited 6,786 and Shahjahanpur appointed 6,754 teachers. Other districts which have witnessed above 5,000 teachers’ appointment include Moradabad (6,541), Shrawasti (6,512), Baghpat (5,634).
In case of West Bengal, out of 12 minority concentration districts, highest number of teachers’ appointment has happened in Murshidabad (6,650), followed by Dakshin Dinajpur (8,414), Hawrah (8,183), Malda (8,146), Birbhum (7,853).
In Bihar, total 53,727 teachers’ have been appointed upto 2015-16, the Minister said in a written reply to the question of Badruddin Ajmal, adding that Assam has recruited 21,477 teachers and Maharashtra has recruited 6,240.
In Bihar, highest 9,650 teachers have been appointed during the period, while lowest 3,683 teachers were appointed in Kishanganj, a minority dominated district. The national capital Delhi has recruited just 767 teachers in two districts – North East (741) and Central Delhi (26), while Haryana has appointed only 384 teachers in its two districts – Mewat (254) and Sirsa (130).
