35-year-old man dies, five critically injured when speeding SUV hits truck, motorcycle near Mehrauli

A 35-year-old-man was killed and five people, including two children, received severe injuries after a speeding SUV hit a truck and a motorcycle in South Delhi on Sunday night.

The accident took place at around 3 am in Mehrauli area of south Delhi. Three persons who were riding in the speeding Scorpio first hit a passerby who was crossing the road. Further, to avert the accident, the driver took turns as a result the driver lost the control.

According to police, ‘The three accused were going towards Ghitorni village. While driving the car they were busy in talking among themselves which distracted Rajkumar.The Scorpio’s driver was unable to see Sanjeev, the person who was crossing the road.’

Further, the speeding SUV hit a parked motorcycle on which two minor children, aged 8 and 10 years, were sitting. After hitting the duo children, the car that lost the control rammed into a truck that was parked at the roadside.

The driver of the Scorpio and his two friends in the SUV, and the two children were injured in the accident. However, the passerby was killed. A call was received to the police control room who reached the crime scene immediately. ‘All the six injured persons were taken to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where doctors pronounced Sanjeev dead on arrival. Rest five persons are undergoing treatment,’ the official added. A case under the appropriate sections includuing rash and negligence driving causing death has been registered against the accused. The Scorpio car was also taken into possession. Rajkumar was arrested by the cops when he was discharged by the doctors after he was given the first aide treatment.
