35-year-old dies in Expressway accident, dozen others injured

A 35-year-old woman died while a dozen others including two children were injured when three vehicles collided at Noida-Greater Noida Expressway on Saturday night. Police said that the victims met with the accident when the vehicles were trying to overtake each other when they collided and were thrown at the opposite lane. The victims, who suffered grievous injuries, were admitted at various hospitals in Greater Noida respectively where one succumbed to her injuries while others are still recuperating.
According to the police, the accident took place at around 9 pm near Jhatta village in Greater Noida at the Expressway when an speeding Ertiga car hit a Duster on Noida-Greater Noida lane. The impact of the accident was so huge that both vehicles crossed the divider and hit another speeding Xylo car on the opposite lane. The accident blocked traffic for a couple of hours and there was traffic jam on the entire stretch.
The passers-by informed the police and the victims were admitted at Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
where Kamlesh (35) died after few hours of treatment while her husband, Surendra, and her two children, aged between five to eight years, were injured critically. The family, a native of Ladpura village in Greater Noida, were coming from the national Capital to the city after celebrating ‘bhai duj’.
The occupants of Ertiga and Xylo, who are residents of the Capital, also suffered injuries.
‘We have sent the body for postmortem and have informed the three families also. Although we have not registered an FIR and we are investigating the matter. Once we receive written complaints, we will register a formal complaint,’ said a senior police official.
