35 out of 100 calls in vikaspuri are from indra camp

According to sources, on an average day, out of the 100 PCR calls directed to the Vikaspuri police station of the West district, 35 calls are made from the Indra Camp cluster related to minor scuffles, drunken brawls, domestic violence etc.

“We get a lot of calls from Vikaspuri area. Although cases of road rage are not very high but the calls pertaining to domestic problems like husband hitting his wife after getting drunk or boys getting into fights takes most of our time.

This is nothing unusual but the maximum number of calls related to drunken brawls, street fights and domestic violence come from the Indra Camp colony. The easy access to cheap liquor is what agravates the situation here,” added a police official who was posted at the Vikaspuri police station few years back.

“Logo ko yaha roti na mile toh chalega par agar sharab na mile toh bawaal mach jata hai (If people living here do not get to eat they are okay but if they don’t get liquor, it will create chaos),” added the officer.

Another Delhi Police  personnel speaking to Millennium Post said: “Barely a few metres from here, there is a shop near the Najafgarh Road going towards Uttam Nagar which sells everything including cheap liquor. The shop opens at 5 am everyday. All the delinquents especially from Indra Camp, Shankar Garden and nearby slum clusters throng there. Despite given these delinquents warnings who are as young as 14-year-old the menace of drunken brawls persists in the area.

Similar cases of road rage have wrecked havoc across the national Capital earlier too.

On March 13, a 55-year-old man died while his seven family members were injured in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area. Reason behind the incident was that the victim, Jhansaram was returning home from work on his motorcycle when some men had blocked his way. When he started honking, it led to an argument which turned into a scuffle in which the accused attacked the victim’s family with swords and sticks.

On February 24, a teenager was stabbed to death in full public view in a park in Central’s Delhi’s Patel Nagar area. The victim, Vasu, a Class X student, was hunted down by a group of young men with knives and choppers, and stabbed to death.

The reason behind the scuffle was that the two culprits, Kunal and Parvesh had accidentally brushed against Vasu while he was riding his scooty in his neighbourhood which ended up in the duo killing Vasu.
