33-year-old crushed to death by speeding truck

A 33-year-old man was crushed to death by a speeding truck near Keshav Puram Metro station in North-west Delhi in the wee hours of Thursday. According to the police, the deceased, Manish Gupta, was on his Black Pulsar motorbike when he was hit by the speeding truck from the rear end at around 1 am.

The errant driver fled the scene abandoning his truck, which has been impounded, a senior police official said. Police has ruled out reports claiming that Gupta was lying on the road for nearly three hours before he was spotted.

“Keshav Puram is a small area, thoroughly patrolled by police teams in the night hours. The spot where the accident took place is close to the Metro station. There is no possibility of the matter going un-noticed for long,” DCP (North-west) Vijay Singh said.

A passer-by informed the police and Gupta was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered in connection with the incident.

Gupta is survived by his wife and kids. Police said that they have found that the truck has a Haryana number plate and are trying to get in touch with the truck owner to nab the errant truck driver.
