30-yr-old electrocuted, neighbours blame BSES

A 30-year-old engineer was killed after being electrocuted from a hanging wire near the balcony in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area on late Sunday evening.

During the incident the victim, identified as, Ravinder Upadhyay was at his friend’s house in A-block in Mayur Vihar Phase-1. After having dinner, Upadhyay wished to go the balcony but his friend objected as there was a probability of being caught with a live electric wire. Despite his warnings, Upadhyay went to the balcony and noticed that a plastic was surrounding the metallic wire which was broken. He then asked his friend to bring an electric tape (black colour) so that he can cover up the breakage to avoid unpredictable electric shocks. The moment he rolled the tape on to the wire, he came in touch with the live electric wire and was electrocuted.

His friend told police that few minutes after the shock, Upadhyay fell on the floor of the balcony. He was immediately rushed to the near by Lal Bahadur Shashtri hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The locals then demonstrated outside the house where the incident took place and raised slogans against BSES. In his statement to police, Upadhyay’s friend said that several mails had been sent to the BSES but no action was taken. The copies of the e-mails have been provided to the police.
