Thirty new cold chains would soon be sanctioned, union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has announced, saying that they were selected on the basis of “merit and transparent process”. Gradually there would be a seamless grid of cold chains providing preservation infrastructure across the country, Badal said.
“Hopefully by this month or next month we shall we should be sanctioning 30 new cold chains. All of them have been selected on the basis of merit through a rigorous and transparent process. The scrutiny has taken a bit of time so that it was ensured that it was allocated to the right people,” Badal said.
“This time we did not have much of a choice because most of the applications came in earlier. The sanctioning of them took time as they had to be scrutinised all over again because when I took over the ministry I found a lot of lacuna in the applications which had come in,” explained the minister.
