After a three-year-old boy was mowed down by a private school bus at the Shahbad Dairy area of Outer Delhi on Thursday morning, locals gathered at the main road and started pelting stones at the police. In retaliation, the police started firing at the angry mob in which a 23-year-old man was killed.
Close to 500 locals were gathered and they torched a police motorcycle in which two police officials were also injured. They also set fire to a TV stringer’s car while he was trying to rescue the injured policemen. The locals even tried to set ablaze the CNG school bus. A train was also halted by the angry mob. The driver of the bus, identified as Mukesh (28) was arrested on the spot.
The deceased boy has been identified as Aditya. Kamla, Aditya’s grandmother said: “At around 7.45 am Aditya was coming towards my shop to buy shampoo when the speeding bus ran him over and tried to flee the spot. However, we caught the driver and found that he was in an inebriated state.”
She further said that they took Aditya to a nearby hospital but by the time they reached there, it was too late. After that a mob gathered at the spot and soon the situation got out of control.
In order to control the mob, police started firing in which 23-year-old Wasim was hit and died.
His neighbour said: “He received a bullet on the chest. He used to sell peanuts on the main road. He was only setting up his shop when the police fired at him. He was not even protesting. We have not even informed his elder sister yet since she will not be able to bear the shock.”
The neighbour added that Wasim was the sole bread-earner of the family and is survived by his parents, three brothers and one elder sister.
Meanwhile, the senior police officials are tight-lipped about the incident.
