3-year-old girl strangled to death by aunt

The arrested accused identified as Roshan (22) was suspicious that the child's mother had illicit relations with her husband, said senior police officers. Angry over this, she killed the girl and hid her body under her bed.

According to police, the child's father lodged a missing complaint on Tuesday night when his 3-year-old daughter went missing. Roshan convinced everyone that the child had gone out to buy chips with Rs 10 she gave to her.

Senior police officers said that Roshan was extensively interrogated. She finally broke down and revealed how she took the girl to her room at around 1pm. When the girl was fast asleep at 3:30pm, she smothered her with a cloth and dumped her body under the bed and stuffed it with clothes to avoid suspicion.

Mohammad Salman, family member of the girl told Millennium Post, “Living under the same roof, my two sisters-in-law often fought over petty issues. On May 17 at around 4 pm, my eldest sister-in-law, Firdosh asked Roshan, the younger sister-in-law, to take care of her daughter as she was going out for grocery shopping. When Firdosh returned, she could not find the girl. On this, Roshan said that since the kid was crying, she gave her Rs 10 to go out and buy chips.”

Anxious family members of the girl started frantically searching for the child and finally approached the police on late Tuesday night. 

Salman said, “It was only on Wednesday night at around 10pm when Roshan's mother who came to our house was sitting at Roshan's room that she (mother) raised alarm about foul smell coming from 

the room.”
