3 smugglers held with haul of liquor

Three liquor smugglers were arrested on Monday from different parts of Gautam Buddha Nagar district and a haul of liquor was seized from their possession.

On a tip-off, Dadri Police arrested Sonu from Garhi village. Over 130 smuggled liquor bottles and 586 quarter bottles were seized from him, police said.

He used to smuggle Haryana-made liquor into the national capital region, police said.

Greater Noida Police arrested Navin Kasna from Jhatta village and seized two cartons of smuggled liquor.

In another case, Jewar Police arrested one Roop Singh and recovered 16 bottles of smuggled liquor.

District Excise Officer, Kuldeep Yadav said, ‘Due to differences in rates, mafias smuggle liquor into UP from Haryana where liquor is cheaper by 30 to 40 per cent.’

Department in association with police conducts regular raids and checks vehicles at borders to check smuggling into the city.


ROBBERY AT NOIDA FACTORY

Eight armed robbers allegedly overpowered two security guards and five employees before robbing goods worth lakhs of rupees at a factory in Sector 80 under Noida Phase 2 police station area. The robbers struck at the electronics factory located at A-88 sector 80 last night and overpowered the guards and employees before robbing copper wire and goods, besides the mobile phones of employees, police said. Security guards Netra Pal and Kishan Dutt Sharma were overpowered by robbers, while factory workers Ankshit, Sanjay, Deepak, Vashisth and Ravi Kumar were held captive at gunpoint, police said. Later, the robbers threw the mobile phones outside the factory at some distance, they said. Factory owner A K Gupta informed the police. A search has been launched to arrest the robbers but till late evening they were not traced, they said.
